The Coastal Museum’s aquaculture department is located in the speedboat terminal at Sandstad on Hitra. With a short distance to fish farms, hatcheries and slaughterhouses, it’s possible to experience the entire salmon production line in one day.

The Coastal Museum’s aquaculture department offers guided tours of different parts of the production line. This takes place together with one of the museum’s independent aquaculture educators. On land, you can also visit the museum’s two free exhibitions: “The Pioneers” – the story of the first aquaculture pioneers in Norway. And “Ringer i Vannet” – an exhibition about the ripple effects of the aquaculture industry, for better or worse.

There are three daily speedboat calls to Sandstad from both Kristiansund and Trondheim. You can also drive the salmon road (county road 714) to Hitra.
