about salmon and aquaculture

Everyone has an opinion about farming and many people need to refresh their knowledge. Or maybe just inspiration to learn more.

More and more initiatives are coming from employees in the industries who want to share from their workplaces. The aim is to build knowledge and broaden understanding of challenges and future opportunities in one of the country’s most important industries. Here we collect some of the podcasts, films and SoMe accounts that may be of interest to a curious audience.

Blog about technology and biology

The Rokter is Mikkel Pedersen’s blog that focuses on sharing insights about aquaculture and future opportunities. Pedersen is the founder of Probiotic and is an innovator in the aquaculture industry. He combines his in-depth understanding of biology and technology, but above all, a passionate commitment to improving fish farming. In the blog and on various SoMe accounts from The Rokter, you’ll get an exciting insight into future opportunities and the path towards sustainable aquaculture.

The fishing hour with research news

“Everyone” has an opinion about salmon farming and there is a great need for new and updated knowledge about the industry,” say Karoline Skaar Amthorn and Kristin Natand. They are behind the podcast Fisketimen.

The research cluster NCE Aquaculture is a partner and sponsor of Fisketimen, which constitutes a strong professional environment with a main focus on production biology and fish health.

– “It’s important that research results are communicated so that the fresh knowledge is spread in a good and responsible way – to as many people as possible. That’s why the collaboration with Karoline and Kristian is a great opportunity for us,” says Malin Johansen, CEO of NCE Aquaculture in an interview with Kyst og fjord.

In the fishing lesson, they dive into the complex challenges and opportunities that affect the health and welfare of farmed fish.

Fishfluencers are passionate about seafood

More and more people working in the fishing and aquaculture industry are sharing photos and stories from their workplaces

Vilde Gamst and Sigrun Eriksen are passionate about the seafood industry and want more young people to get hooked. To share their enthusiasm, they started Fishfluencers on Instagram three years ago. Now they’re spreading knowledge and sharing funny stories on Tiktok too. The entire seafood industry is involved when Fishfluencers either share their own stories or get companies and people who work in the industry to contribute. Both Sigrun and Vilde work in the industry themselves, at Lerøy and Mowi respectively, and they met during their undergraduate studies at the Norwegian School of Fishery Science.

Proud of the salmon

The response was great when “Proud of the salmon” was first launched as a campaign in 2018. Here, the industry, the people and everything that happened in aquaculture were to find their place through pictures and stories. Hans-Arne Frantzen and Johannes Krüger have now taken on the responsibility of revitalising #stoltavlaksen. Here you will find many interesting topics and meetings with people who work in the industry.
